Fake Problems x Look Mexico

Fake Problems x Look Mexico

A (not really that) new thing we've tried to keep going here at the 'org is a series that features a band interviewing another band they either really like, respect and/or just enjoy. In this edition, we have Fake Problem's Chris Farren and Look Mexico's Matt Agrella interviewing each other. Both bands will be appearing at this year's Fest (Hey! We're sponsors!). Look Mexico will be performing on Saturday, November 2 at The Wooly at 10:30 p.m. and Fake Problems takes the stage at 8 Seconds on Sunday, Novermber 3 at 7:40 p.m. And with that, we'll hand it over two these fine two gentlemen.

Mike Warne (Pkew Pkew Pkew (Gunshots))

Mike Warne (Pkew Pkew Pkew (Gunshots))

Drunk-punk: a sub-genre designation for those who've left emotions at the party door, and are ready to let loose, heavily intoxicated by their never-wavering companion; alcohol. Are sub-grene's an attempt to diversify saturated scenes? Most likely. Are they relevant and worth the time? No. But, if there is one band that personifies the designation, Pkew Pkew Pkew (Gunshots) may be the best choice. Their no-gimmick, straigh- forward punk invites the listener to the party just through their speakers. Their insanely fun new record Glory Days will soon be released to the masses, and these Canadian punks are hoping you'll join the party.

Without much information on the web to give you a well rounded view of who they are, what they do and how they sound, Punknews interviewer Xan Mandell spoke with guitar/vocalist Mike Warne to gather further information, get a better sense of their recording techniques and why they chose such a hilarious name. We also got off topic for a second to talk about beer, whiskey and their legendary tolerance to alcohol.

Interviews
Modern Baseball

Ian Farmer(Modern Baseball)

After releasing their debut LP, Sports, in 2012 and embarking on their first national tour earlier this year with Tiny Moving Parts it seems like Modern Baseball is slowly but surely on their way to world domination - or at the very least becoming a household name in the punk scene. Later this year the band will release a 6-way split with the likes of Dikembe and Pentimento just to name a few.

With a schedule like this, with several members being in college, it's amazing how the band finds time to even breathe let alone tour. Luckily bassist of Modern Baseball, Ian Farmer, was able to find a few spare moments to chat with contributing editor & interviewer Armando Olivas. The two discussed school, the recording process, The Fest in Gainesville and much more.

Interviews
The Wild

Witt Wisebram (The Wild)

Since their formation half a decade ago, Atlanta, GA's The Wild have added a definite lightness to the world of folk-tinged punk. Not lightness as in inconsequentiality, but lightness as in the indefinable way their work has a tendency to illuminate and uplift. With this year's full-length, the deeply personal Dreams Are Maps; produced by Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace; The Wild have cemented their position as one of the most gifted bands in their field.

Punknews contributing editor Andy Waterfield sat down with guitarist/co-vocalist Witt Wisebram earlier this year, to discuss losing friends, channeling grief into art, and the experience of working on the most personal material of The Wild's career with Laura Jane Grace.

Interviews
Coke Bust

Nick Tape (Coke Bust)

You'd be hard-pressed to find people with more stamps in their passports than the guys in Coke Bust. The D.C. hardcore band recently completed a month-long journey through more European countries than are represented at Epcot. That came on the heels of another month spent traversing North America, all in support of an album that hasn't even been released in the U.S. yet. Punknews staffer Adam Eisenberg caught up with Coke Bust lead singer Nick Tape to talk about the band's recent travels, discuss D.C.'s all-ages scene and find out which exotic locale Coke Bust is headed to next.

Warren Oakes (Sunshine State, Against Me!)

Warren Oakes (Sunshine State, Against Me!)

Since leaving Against Me! five years ago, Warren Oakes has focused on his career as a restaurateur and stayed pretty quiet musically. That changed this summer when his new band, Sunshine State, started practicing in earnest, recorded some demos, set up a Bandcamp, and started playing shows. Interviewer Megan Rosenfeld talked with Warren about Sunshine State's upcoming recording plans, his thoughts on this year's Fest line up, and recent developments at Boca Fiesta, his restaurant/venue.
