Interviews
Algernon Cadwallader

Peter Helmis (Algernon Cadwallader)

Their history is relatively short, their discography even shorter, and their touring? Nearly non-existent (or so it seems). However, for the trials and setbacks, the problems surrounding their inability to devote more time to their aesthetic product, Philadelphia's Algernon Cadwallader are quickly captivating the attention of seemingly all the right people. Matthew Bentel had the opportunity to talk with Algernon's Peter Helmis, and ask him a few questions. They touch on Fest, the problems they've had touring, and yes, the whole Cap'n Jazz thing.

Dead To Me

Dead To Me

While 2008 and part of 2009 may have seemed like a down time for Dead to Me, nothing could be further from the truth. In a flurry of activity the band reorganized the structure of the band (with the temporary hiatus of co-frontman Jack Dalrymple), found a new vocalist in guitar player Nathan Grice, wrote and recorded a new album and even started another band, Bad Friends. Somewhere amid the activity Dante 3000 found a chance to talk to the band about the departure of Jack, the new album and even take some time to be insulted by Chicken. (The audio of the interview can be heard in its entirety at Sound Scene Revolution).

The Color Fred

Fred Mascherino (The Color Fred)

In a time when bands and artists are compromising themselves for big rock and roll dreams, it's refreshing to see an artist who has said "fuck you" to the allusions of fame and fortune for a simpler, but happier existence. With a new, darker album slated for early next year, a VW Rabbit full of re-used vegetable oil and a musically liberated soul, Fred Mascherino of The Color Fred, and formerly of Taking Back Sunday, sat down with Gen Handley from Punknews to discuss why he's in a happier place now and what the color Fred actually looks like.

Interviews

Dave Wolinsky (Calvinball)

With their new album's release sandwiched between a late-summer tour of their native United Kingdom and a slot in The Fest 8's lineup, Calvinball is poised to make their musical mark here in the U.S. and abroad. Via email, the band waxed lyrical with Brandon Campbell about their penchant for irresponsibility, performing drunk and simply having fun with their gruff brand of punk.

A Wilhelm Scream

Trevor Reilly (A Wilhelm Scream)

Massachusetts-based punk unit A Wilhelm Scream will make an appearance at Gainsville, Florida's Fest festival this year, marking their second time on the bill. The show will happen shortly after their first release for Paper and Plastick Records, a self-titled, 5-song EP, hits stores. Laila Hanson had an interview with guitarist/vocalist Trevor Reilly about the Fest, the upcoming EP and more.

Deeker Johnston (Joey Terrifying)

Hailing from the east coast of Scotland, Joey Terrifying are among a new wave of UK DIY bands flourishing even in the face of perhaps the harshest economic climate since the 1930's. Whilst the music industry continues to suffer a prolonged panic attack as a result of declining CD sales, DIY remains as vital a tool as ever. Punknews.org's crackpotdemagogue caught up with Joey Terrifying vocalist/frontman Deeker Johnston to shoot the breeze about punk rock, DIY and Jane Austen.

Living with Lions

Chase Brenneman (Living With Lions)

Fresh off their tour with The Swellers, Living with Lions are back in their hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, writing the follow up to their debut full length Mark Your Mark. Prior to releasing their sophomore album in 2010, the band will be heading out on a fall tour with A Wilhelm Scream, followed by their first appearance at The Fest. Guitarist Chase Brenneman took some time out of writing to speak with Mark Millard about the bands new opportunities in the States, their writing process and The Fest 8.

Pansy Division

Jon Ginoli (Pansy Division)

Having formed in 1991 in San Fransisco, Pansy Division were the pop-punk pioneer in the "homo-core" movement. The band was a Lookout! Records staple. Touring with Green Day at the height of their "Dookie" popularity just further added to the exposure Pansy Division would get and only made their voice, that much louder. It's not often that a band as socially important as Pansy Division comes along. They have had a very busy first half of the year, between a new LP, a book and a DVD, Pansy Division are as busy as ever. Michael Kane caught up with Jon Ginoli singer and co-founder of Pansy Division.
