We've theorized that you visit other websites out there, and we know it can be tough to leave the calming blue glow of the `Org, so we'll help by infecting the rest of the web with Punknews content:

Your trusty Punknews staffers and reviewers have all sorts of projects on the go, everything from poorly spelled and oft neglected blogs to big official world domination schemes. Make sure to check out videographer Chris Moran's collection of recordings online at Vimeo, social media editor Justin August's tumblog at JustinAugust.org, news editor Adam White's tumblog at AdamWhite.org, news editor Bryne Yancey's podcast What We Hate, copy editor Jesse Raub's short fiction webzine Bitter Press, and reviews editor Brian Shultz' blogs Over Looked and Witness.

In our everprogressing search to abuse the internet in every single way possible, we've started the official Punknews Wave! What's Google Wave? Good question. We're not quite sure yet but this weekend we gave away a bunch of invites via Twitter (one of the great benefits of following us is weird stuff like that) and we're taking over GoogleLand.

December 6th, 2009

Hello everybody and welcome to Navel Gazing! Today's obviously a huge day in the Punknews universe so we're going to forgo our usual format and chat about about the new Punknews.org. As you can see we launched our new layout today, our fifth revision in the ten years that the site's been around. This revision has been in the works for a long time and was available in public beta since February of this year. We have a few goals for the new site. First we'll be putting more of a focus on big stories and features like interviews and videos. You'll see those referenced in the story slider in the right, which should be updated several times weekly. If you scroll to the bottom of the front page you'll also find links to recent interviews, videos and popular content. The "Happening Now" box at the top of the page will be rapidly updated, featuring quick links to songs, videos, and articles around the web that we find interesting but might not (yet) have a full article prepared. As always there are bugs and quirks that come to light when you make a change this large, so we'll be making tweaks and change throughout the week. We'll also be adding some of the features you've requested in the this article. Keep posting your thoughts and comments there. .ng-section1 { font-size: small; border-bottom: 1px solid #C5C5C5; width: 70%; font-weight: bold; padding: 1em 0 0em 2em; } .ng-section2 { font-size: xx-small; padding: 0 0 2em 3em; } The People Must Have Something Good To Read On A Sunday This week's most popular stories So what happened this week? NOFX posted a stream of their upcoming Cokie the Clown EP, along with a video featuring cameo appearances from Matt Skiba, Tim McIlrath of Rise Against and Brendan Kelly of the Lawrence Arms. I'm Adam White Justin and I'll be your guide through some of the most popular, notable, and otherwise attention getting stories of the past seven days. Each and every Punknews story is built from tips contributed by you fine folks, and here's what got the community talking this week… The People Must Have Something Good To Read On A Sunday This week's most popular stories This past week ended with some news from Asian Man Records, mostly on the bummer side of the scale. The Matt Skiba solo album we've been waiting for was delayed and Ben Weasel decided to take his ball and go home, severing all ties with the label. No word as to why. We heard about Bomb The Music Industry!'s upcoming "Bring Your Own Band Tour" which sounds… interesting. The young'ns in O Pioneers!!! are rolling out on tour with Against Me! and Roll The Tanks in California this winter.

There was quite a bit of old guard/late 90's nostalgia going on this week. We heard that Pennywise was gearing up for a new album and tour while the Mad Caddies are building a "Best Of" album via fan votes. Mine is for "The Bell Tower" about 12 times. ALL is heading out on tour with Off With Their Heads and Shot Baker, which has some of our editors singing Mass Nerder back to front in anticipation. When they run out of politics, animal rights and Fat Mike jokes, Propagandhi shows their true colors and wax poetic about hockey. Hold off on the "Where Are They Now…" VH1, Wizo is back! New album and tour in the works.

The lovable chaps in Fucked Up unveiled their plans for splits with NOFX and The King Khan and BBQ Show and a remake of "Do They Know It's Christmas." That last one can't end well.

We heard some concerns about underground music venues in Los Angeles and our commenters had their own experiences to talk about surrounding that as well. I Can't Control My Fingers I Can't Control My Brain New feature content, weekly columns and exclusives This week we spoke with Shawn Stern of BYO Records, Matt Hawks of Hit the Switch, and John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats.

As always we brought you new streaming music from some great up and coming bands, including new material from Snacktruck, Dead To Me's new LP African Elephants, an EP from The A-Gang, and a new EP from Sleepless Nights.

So what's coming up this week? Look for new releases from Defeater, MxPx, The Blood Brothers, A Wilhelm Scream, and many others. Look for tours from Rise Against / Thursday / Poison the Well (UK), Baroness with Earthless, Iron Age, Off With Their Heads and Municipal Waste, Cub Country (ex-Jets to Brazil), After the Fall / Such Gold, Story of the Year / The Devil Wears Prada / All That Remains / Haste The Day, The Ataris, Big D and the Kids Table / Ill Scarlet, Underoath / August Burns Red / Emery, and more.
