Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q: Was Elton John the first goth?A: As much as I love Sir Elton, I don't think the term would apply. In my understanding (which is insanely limited) Joy Division is largely considered the first "goth" band. I have no idea what that means, other than they made people really sad.
Elton John, while he did have sad songs, mostly made people feel rad as fuck with his music. I mean, he wore awesome glasses and had a Donald Duck costume. Beyond that, I picture goths as being moody and introverted. While John is clearly moody, ever since he first used cocaine he's been anything but introverted (which is part of the thing I love about him. I mean he calls out Madona for lip syncing. Which isn't amazingly brave, but it's so super bitchy that I can't help but love it.).
So, I wouldn't imagine but I don't really study goth culture. So maybe.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q: Rich, can you review more bay area bands please. K. Thanks.A: I would legitimately have to know more Bay Area bands and my complete lack of activity outside of my house would limit that. I don't really go to local shows, right now. However, all local bands are welcome to send me an e-mail Rich@punknews.org and we can try that.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q: Would the old episodes of the podcast ever be re…uploaded? Or some similar procedure to allow listens? Or suggest something else for me to do with my time.A: According to tech guru and religious zealot Adam White, we should be working on getting them up some way soon. I guess Apple doesn't want a ton of podcasts up at once (even if they are of such startlingly amazing quality that they make angels weep).
So…hopefully soon-ish. Hold tight.
