Hello everyone and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back in the week in Punknews. • The lead singer of Megadeth accused the president of staging recent mass killings.
• Rise Records announced they will be re-releasing Hot Water Music's Forever and Counting
• Green Day released another new single from their upcoming record, ¡Uno! , entitled "Kill the DJ".
• Protesters who were protesting in support of Pussy Riot were arrested in New York.
• Dustin Kensrue of Thrice premiered his new christian rock project.
• We sat down and had a chat with Play Date.
• Silversun Pickups weren't too happy with MItt Romney using their song for his campaign.

Q: What do you think of NOFX? Descendents? Screeching Weasel?

A: They all have their place in punk music history. I can't say I listen to any of them as much as I did in High School but I'm glad each exists, musically. Personally, I don't think I'd hang out with much of the dude's in the bands. But I'd love to make a three man human pyramid with Fat Mike and Ben Weasel. I'd be the top. Then we'd walk around, with me riding them like ponies.

• We released our interview with the late Tony Sly.
• Bad Religion are getting closer to finishing their new album for they announced they finished the lyric portion of the album.
• The Darkness let us know they're still around and released their cover of Radiohead's "Street Spirit (Fade Out)".
• Hatebreed were mistakenly labeled as a white power group.
• Former Queens of the Stone Age / Dwarves bassist, Nick Oliveri, somehow managed to avoid jail time after his arrest last year.
• The Beastie Boys are suing Monster Energy Drink for using their music without their permission.

Q: Have you guys ever considered making punknews donation based? It seems to work for a lot of labels, so I'd be curious if it would work for you guys.

A: I can't say if it has ever been considered but I can say I've never heard about it, if it has. It's an interesting concept but then it makes us (in some ways) more beholden to the reader. Which sounds okay but if we say post a story about Cobra Starship and people go, "Well fuck this, I'm not donating anymore," it puts us in a very difficult situation. When people actively pay/donate for something they tend to want it to be something they'll like all the time.

No one is going to stop reading because we post a story they dislike (sometimes this has even resulted in interesting conversations), but they might not donate, and that would put us in a bit of a bind. Currently we have ads that have no impact on what we say or do, and that's not a bad deal.

• The punk rock community mourned the loss of the talented and influential No Use for a Name frontman, Tony Sly. He is deeply missed.
• The issues concerning gender and how they have changed over the years in punk rock and hardcore were discussed by the likes of Alice Bag (The Bags), Ian Mackaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi), Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile), and Katie Crutchfield (PS Elliot).
• A riot broke out at a recent free show in LA featuring Trash Talk where fans were maced by police when they tried to enter the venue when it was at maximum capacity.
• NOFX released a new song while Fat Mike discussed his S&M lifestyle.
• The Fest 11 announced additional acts to this year's lineup which includes Latterman, Propagandhi, and many more.
• Killing Joke's vocalist disappeared after releasing a statement concerning their upcoming shows with The Cult which ultimately caused the band to cancel their appearance.
• Frank Turner's new project, Mongol Horde, released their first song.
