Vinyl Collective announces cooperative label - win a share!

Although Vinyl File was planing on taking a break over the next two weeks, we thought we would drop in briefly to announce another contest, this time in conjunction with the fine folks at Vinyl Collective.

Vinyl Collective announced yesterday that they will be creating a cooperative label in which up to 200 people will be able to buy a share. The plan is that each $60 share will go towards pressing two albums that have not yet been released on vinyl. Each album pressed will limited to 1,000 with shareholders getting the rarest color variation for free. The remaining albums will be sold through various distributors with all profits going back into the cooperative to press another record. All shareholders will be invited to participate in the selection of the album to be pressed.

Virgil Dickerson of Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective explains

Shareholders are promised at least 2 to 4 rare records, but if things go well, the revenue brought in for sales of the records will go to pressing new releases and in theory this initial investment of $60 could possibly bring in 50 records for each shareholder.

Shares for the label will go on sale on Friday through Vinyl Collective. However, Vinyl Collective and Vinyl File are pleased to offer one reader a share in the label for free. To be entered in the draw, email info (at) suburbanhomerecords (dot) com. Put "Vinyl Cooperative Label" in the subject box. One winner will be announced here on Friday morning before shares go on sale.
