Wolfnote: 'Wolfnote'

Wolfnote: 'Wolfnote'

Today, Punknews is pleased to debut the new self-titled EP by Wolfnote. The band is composed of Harm's Way's Bo Lueders and Chris Mills, as well as former Harm's Way member Dave Cronin.

But, whereas Harm's Way makes its trade in vicious, crunching hardcore, Wolfnote finds the trio looking back to their earliest influences. There are touches of Smiths and the Cure, mixed with a hefty dose of late '80s Chicago punk. This is a driving punk rock with a sensitive side, if you will. Alkaline Trio fans, take note.

The release is out June 9, 2015 via Head 2 Wall Records and you can pre-order it right here. Meanwhile, you can hear the whole thing below.

The Reptilian: “Nahimastay” (Exclusive)

Today, Punknews is pleased to debut a new track by The Reptilian. On "Nahimastay," the band creates a shifting, post-punk vibe that's not easily definable. At the bottom end, they have that hard, massive Amphetamine Reptile rumble, but, on the top end, twinkling guitars and ragged vocals intertwine. There are bits of Bear vs Shark and Touché Amoré here, but there's more than that, too. The track is off a split with Two Knights, Victor Shores and Boy Parts. It's out on 7-inch via Skeletal Lightning and the Ghost is Clear Records on June 17, 2015.

You can pre-order the split here and here.

Meanwhile, you can hear "Nahimastay" below.

Power: "Cageless" (Exclusive)

Power: “Cageless” (Exclusive)

Punknews is excited to debut the new single by Power. On "Cageless," the band takes that nasty, mousetrap riffage of Black Flag and builds it on the back of modern hardcore punk chugging. If Coliseum were Damaged fanatics, this might be what you would get.

The tune is off the upcoming EP called Heavy Muscle out via Twelve Gauge Records on July 10.

Jello Biafra: "Land of 1,000 Dances"

Jello Biafra: “Land of 1,000 Dances”

We've got a special stream for you today! Back in 2011, Bill Davis of Dash Rip Rock challenged Jello Biafra to fly out to New Orleans Jazz Fest and record an entire set of garage rock, blues, roots and frat rock tunes. Jello took Davis up on the offer and, on May 8, 2011, Jello Biafra, along with a crack band including Davis, Fred LeBlanc, Pete Gordon, Brian Broussard, Pepper Keenan, Josh Cohen, Paul Grass, Eric Belletto, Glenn Barberot and Mike Joseph, blasted through a full set of 'Nawlins classics.

And, thank Poppa Legba, but the entire set was recorded. It's a wild, frantic, wonderfully sloppy take on these classics as performed by an eleven piece band. "House of the Rising Sun," "Workin' in a Coal Mine," "Mother in Law," "Judy in Disguise"-- they're all there!

We're absolutely thrilled to debut the track "Land of 1,000 Dances" off the brand new Walk on Jindal's Splinters live LP. It's out today via Alternative Tentacles Records and you order it here.

Meanwhile, you can hear the new track right here.

Slime Girls: "Yumemi"

Slime Girls: “Yumemi”

It's obvious that Slime Girls grew up playing hours and hours of old-school NES. As part of the "Chip-tune" scene, the band takes the button mashing soundtracks of Mega-Man and Zelda, and then wraps those bleeps around a prog-punk backbone. Their new single, "Yumemi," takes that angle in a dreamier, spacier direction. This song doesn't sound like the boss fight, but rather, the scene just after where our hero flies into the clouds as the cartridge's credits flash by.

The tune is from a 7-inch single being put out on Phat 'n' Phunky Records (run by Shinobu's own Bob Vielma!) You can pre-order the 7-inch here. Meanwhile, you can hear this 8-bit goodness below.

Today is May the Fourth and you know what that means! It's the day that we celebrate Jawbreaker's famed tune, "Sluttering (May 4th)!" (What, you didn't think we would reference some sci-fi movie or something? That would just be nerdy…)

So, to celebrate, we're streaming a new cover of the song by emo veterans Kid Brother Collective. The song is off the upcoming Jawbreaker tribute record What's the Score out on Save Your Generation Records. The comp includes covers of Jawbreaker jams by Ghost Thrower, Lawn Mower, Save Ends and more. The album is out June 23, 2015 (vinyl in late July) and you can pre-order it here.

World War IX: 'If One of These Bottles Should Happen to Fall'

Punknews is pleased to debut the new EP by World War IX. On the new release, they make it clear that they love booze and it's called If One of These Bottles Should Happen to Fall. The EP is five tracks of loud, energetic, sloppy punk where the band sings about getting wasted. Though, if you listen closely, the band seems to salute and decry the party lifestlye in the same breath… Also, they're releasing a comic book that coincides with the release! The EP is out May 12, 2015 and you can pre-order it here.

Meanwhile, you can stream the whole thing right now on their Punknews.org Profile. You can also download a preview of the comic book right here.
