Noisem: “Replant and Repress”

Punknews is excited to debut the new song from Baltimore, MD-based Noisem. The track is called "Replant and Repress" and finds the band tearing through two fierce minutes that are equal parts hardcore and thrash. The vocals are shredded. The riffs are twisted. The solo is straight up evil. This band is leading the pack in new, exciting, underground metal.

The track is off the upcoming Blossoming Decay LP due out June 6, 2015 on A389 Records. Pre-orders are here. Meanwhile, you can hear that mean new tune right here.

The Briggs: “Gridlocked”

Punknews is pleased to debut the new track by The Briggs. The tune is called "Gridlocked" and it's off their upcoming self-titled EP, due out May 5, 2015. On the new track, the band declares that they're off on a "clean start" with an anthemic refrain. Speaking to Punknews, The band's Joey Larocca explained just how personal the song really is:

Over the last few years we broached the idea of getting things going again and pushing forward as a band but with everything each individual member has been doing, it was just too tough to have it fit in our lives anymore. We actually were in the process of writing a full-length for a label and recorded a good handful of songs. The deal ended up going sour and once again decided to walk away.

After some time went by we cracked open the sessions and listened to the songs and thought,"Damn, I really like these songs!" "We should just put them out. Fuck it!" We figured it was a shame to just sit on this music that's already recorded and ready to go. It's better to put it out to the world than let it collect dust."

You can pre-order the new release here. Meanwhile, you can hear the new tune below.

Selections from Up For Nothing / Resolutions Split 7-inch

Today Punknews is pleased to debut two of the four tracks from the upcoming Up For Nothing / Resolutions split 7-inch.

First, Up For Nothing turn in the revelrous "Faker," which, with its tight structure and bombastic delivery pays homage to Rancid and Off with Their Heads. (Related- a little birdy told us that Up For Nothing will be recording a new LP in May…) Then, Resolutions kick out "Non Shit Talker," a charging track that contrasts clean pop-punk lines against a gruff, back-of-the-throat singing. This is right up your alley, Punknews-ers.

The release is out May 11, 2015 but you can pre-order it at Swamp Cabbage Records (USA) and Homebound Records (EU).

You can find the two tracks here.

Punknews streams long lost LP recorded in 1980 by the Flames

Punknews is mega-mega-mega excited for today's stream. Today, we're doing something that we've never done before. Today, we are streaming an unreleased, unissued, unknown album recorded by the Flames in 1980. This is literally the first time the public has ever heard this long lost gem. (And really, this is a long lost gem!)

This record blends jumpy power-pop with the snappiness of early new wave with the edgy lyrics of first wave punk. Just look at some of these titles: "Stabbed to Death," "Contaminated," "Menage a Trois."

If you've been following the Punknews podcast, you'll know that the reason we came across this record was that editor John G found a copy in the bargain bin in a used record store. There was absolutely no record of this album anywhere on the internet. If you are a punk connoisseur, you know how rare that is in this age of mass documentation.

BUT, on the back of the record was a phone number (no area code) written in magic marker. Above it was the name "Michael J. Richards," the guy credited as vocalist and guitarist on the album. The result was a literal one-in-a-million shot in tracking down Richards. The story of this record's re-discovery is nearly as fascinating as the record itself. (And it's a fascinating record, mind you!)

So, for the first time in the existence of man, you, the public can hear the entirety of 1980's The Flames right here. Meanwhile, you can click read more for an extensive history of how this record came (not) to be by John Gentile.

'Plow United / Headies Split 7-inch'

Punknews is mega-excited to stream the brand new split 7-inch EP by Plow United and The Headies. This extended play kicks!

West Chester's Plow United blast out two ragged, bombastic, compact punk anthems, one of which is about how awesome Dungeons and Dragons is. Then, Wilmington's The Headies rip through three pop-punk snappers. There's a little '90s Lookout styling here and a little Joey Ramone there. You can thank Route 202 for uniting these two East Coast champions. (Also, if you're cruising down that way, be sure to stop at Jimmy John's Hot Dogs).

The release is out soon on Self Aware Records and you can pre-order here. Meanwhile, you can hear the whole thing below, right now.

Night Birds: “Dos Principes”

Punknews is thrilled and honored to debut the first taste of the new Night Birds album. As you know, the band is currently working on their next LP, due out this year on Fat Wreck Chords. Well, they've sent us a track from new release. Frontman Brian Gorsegner spoke to Punknews:

"A third album can be a tough pill to swallow. It's a challenge to not just make more of the same, while not wanting to stray too far from what made your fan base like your songs in the first place. While this tune may come off as a bit of a departure, I think for our core fans and those who truly "get" what we are doing, it makes PERFECT sense.

It's always rad to me when someone says our music makes them want to pick up a skateboard or go out surfing, but what about some of the less popular alt sports, like hacky sacking or devil sticking? With this new album a personal goal of mine is for someone to tell me they heard "Dos Príncipes" and couldn't help but unite in the form of a circle with other like minded freaks of all shapes, colors, races, and sexes in a HUGE raging fucking hack."
